Since 1921 the St Mary’s community have dedicated themselves to collecting and preserving the story and heritage of St Mary’s and its students.

Today there is a vital and growing collection of documents, records, publications, oral histories, memorabilia and photographs stored in the Archives Cottage and displayed throughout the school. The incorporation of the archives collection into the daily life of the school is regarded as essential in supporting the heritage of the school, and reinforcing the ideals and beliefs established by the founding community of St Mary’s.

Renewed interest in the archival collection was generated by the 85th school birthday celebrations in 2006. Old Girls and former staff travelled from all over Western Australia, interstate and overseas to commemorate the school’s history and celebrate its future.

Building our collection

The archives collection will grow and develop with donations and help from Old Girls and the St Mary’s community. Items such as hats, badges, blazers, photos, letters, recollections, clippings, publications, school reports, music, drama and sporting programmes, all have intrinsic value and importance to the collection. Assistance from Old Girls, parents and staff with the sorting and identification of photographs would be greatly appreciated.

The Archives are located in the Archives Cottage by the main gate and is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 8.30am - 4.30pm.

If you would like to visit the Archives please make an appointment with Stephanie Neille, the School Archivist, on telephone (08) 9341 9113.
