Many of life’s lessons can be best learned in a setting outside the walls of the conventional classroom. In the stunning surroundings of Metricup, girls of all ages will explore and experiment in the great outdoors, encountering unique and unforgettable learning and living experiences.
The programmes to be conducted at Metricup and in the surrounding area will provide our girls with opportunities to take part in a wide range of activities, such as abseiling, caving, canoeing, snorkelling, surfing and bush walking expeditions.
Girls will have the opportunity to complement classroom learning with a direct and intimate appreciation of the natural environment. Subject camps, such as Art, Geography, Music, Creative Writing and Biology Camps, will further develop the already strong learning curriculum our students enjoy.
Through challenge, adventure and enjoyment, girls will develop the skills needed to move with confidence and safety in rural settings, and their creativity and aesthetic appreciation will be extended by focussing on and being in the outdoors.
Student use of Metricup will be developed in stages. Already many of our students have spent time at the property.
In its initial years St Mary’s at Metricup will be the focus of our outdoor education programme, providing the base for numerous year group and subject group camps.
Our longer term vision is to have Year 9s enjoy a more extended stay at Metricup, initially for two weeks, developing into a four week experience further in the future. Opportunities to learn about self and others while living together, as well as developing a wide range of new skills, are just some of the exciting times ahead for our students.
