As the girls come to the end of their Junior School journey and look forward to the opportunities and challenges of Senior School, we ensure the Year 7 programme prepares them in every way for the next step of their schooling
A balance between the challenges of specialist subject areas and pastoral care within the classroom make this transition period an invaluable step in the learning journey. Support is given to every student in the development of personal organisation and time management, research and presentation skills and leadership responsibilities, which combine to produce independent, life-long learners.
Year 7 girls follow, for the first time, a Senior School like timetable. In addition to the core subjects of Mathematics, English, Science, Society and Environment and Technology and Enterprise the girls study Art, Dance, Drama, Health Education, Italian, Library, Literature and Research, Music, Physical Education and Religious Education with specialist teachers. Interactive whiteboards are an important tool in assisting with the Year 7 teaching and learning programme.
Year 7 is a year in which the girls try new things, make new friends, learn new skills, find their own voice and take on positions of responsibility, all within the nurturing Junior School environment. Year 7 welcomes two new classes of girls and the beginning of the year is marked with an outdoor education camp which provides an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other. At the end of the year the girls travel to Canberra and Sydney as the culmination of their Year 7 studies.
Girls can explore their interests and develop their talents in the vibrant extra-curricular programme of sport, music, drama and after school clubs.
All Year 7 students have a responsibility to help with the organisation of the Junior School. Students are elected as House Captains, Assembly, Chapel, Library or Media Captains. Chess, Music, Debating and Science Captains are chosen from students who participate in these activities.
