Students are first introduced to business studies courses during Year 10 when they can opt to study Enterprise and Business Technology. In this course students are introduced to the small business environment and gain experience in marketing, production and bookeeping.
In Years 11 and 12, girls have the opportunity to study a range of Tertiary Entrance Examination and Wholly School Assessed subjects. Students can also study Economics which is a Tertiary Entrance Scoring subject.
Accounting can be taken in Years 11 and 12 as a Tertiary Entrance Scoring subject. It aims to provide students with basic financial literacy. Accounting provides a good foundation for students intending to undertake further studies in Accounting and Finance or students who aspire to run their own small business.
Students explore different types of business ownership and their respective methods of presenting accounts. The subject also deals with issues like sources of finance, internal control and how to evaluate the financial health of a business.
Management and Marketing can be taken at Year 12 level in either Year 11 or 12 as a Wholly School Assessed subject. This course is offered in alternate years with Small Business Management. The course includes simulations, case studies and independent investigations to allow students to develop a good understanding of the place of business in the economic and social environment.The importance of effective management is emphasised as students examine the role of management within a business and of businesses within the wider Australian community and with our trading partners.
Small Business Management and Enterprise can be taken at Year 12 level in either Year 11 or 12 as a Wholly School Assessed subject. This course is offered in alternate years with Management and Marketing. It is a valuable subject for students who are interested in operating a small business. The subject examines the life cycle of a business in a hands-on environment and encourages students to exhibit their enterprising flair. The activities undertaken in this subject largely revolve around a simulation activity that requires students to operate their own small business. It provides students with a range of vocational opportunities, including self-employment and post-secondary studies.
