The Media both reflect and shape the culture and values of society. They are central to entertainment, dissemination, communication and education and so they are of fundamental importance in defining the way we see ourselves and others.
The Media Department offers an exciting and comprehensive programme. Units of study include photography, videography, advertising, public relations, journalism, studio production, film and television studies, editing, digital media, radio, marketing, documentary study and more. Media is a subject which is versatile and suits a variety of subject choices and career paths
Media Studies in an option for students in Years 8 to 10. The courses aim to increase the students' understanding of how the media operates in our society today.
Students are introduced to the basic theories of mass communication, modern mass media, film, television, photography, advertising and print media. They learn the hard skills of photography and videography as well as writing their own news articles, making their own films, radio programme and video documentary.
In Years 9 and 10 students interested in becoming a filmmaker, television director, or media producer can also opt to study Animation.
Media Production and Analysis is a Tertiary Entrance Scoring subject. Throughout the course, students view, listen, read, research, analyse and discuss all types of media and consider how people, events and issues are presented. They develop an understanding of popular culture today and in the past. Students also create, produce and present their own works in a medium of their choice.
