The Physical Education programme aims to provide girls with a broad range of experiences, through involvement in a wide variety of sports from Years 8 to 12.
The teaching programmes and experienced staff promote the development of skills, tactics and sportsmanship. Girls are encouraged to challenge themselves whilst being supportive of each other. The teaching programmes are complemented by the school's excellent campus and sporting facilities with local beaches and community venues adding a further dimension to the range of activities that can be offered.
In Years 8 and 9, girls participate in a traditional physical education programme, which complements the Independent Girls' Schools' Sports Association (IGSSA) competitions, whilst taking best advantage of the facilities available on campus. In Year 10, girls participate in non-traditional sports within a programme that follows a health and fitness approach to physical activity.
In Term I, all students participate in swimming programmes. These programmes cover lifesaving skills, personal survival and rescue techniques with students working towards a Royal Life Saving Society recognised award appropriate to their year group.
Following camp, the Year 8s complete units in gymnastics, athletics and close the semester with basketball, where they are assessed for the Mars Five Star award. The Year 9s participate in units of badminton, soccer and athletics, whilst the Year 10 students have courses in self-defence, badminton and fitness.
A Sports Science course is offered to students in Year 10 who are interested in the theory behind movement, physiology and the socio-cultural concepts that form the basis of their own and others participation in physical activity.
Girls in Years 11 and 12 must participate in an option-based programme. Dependent on student preferences, they have the opportunity to select from the following activities over the course of the year: surfing, yoga, squash, ice skating, self-defence, badminton, ten-pin bowling, pilates and beach volleyball.
Physical Education Studies is offered as a Tertiary Entrance Scoring subject.
