Geography aims to widen and increase the students' undertstanding of our ever changing world.The emphasis is on the relationships between the physical and human environments. Fieldwork is a vital component of the study of Geography. Students make field trips to study the issues of sand dune conservation, wetland management, coastal protection and changes in rural and urban areas of Western Australia.

Years 8, 9 and 10

Geography is compulsory throughout Years 8 to 10. In Year 8 students learn the main geographical skills which will provide a valuable background to their future Geography studies. In fun, challenging and hands on activities students learn to map read, use a compass, research and fieldwork techniques and weather map interpretation. In Year 9 students study Australian Environments and People in a Global Context. The topics covered include Australia and its unique environment, natural hazards and tourism. In Year 10 students are introduced to world development issues.

Years 11 and 12 

Geography is a Tertiary Entrance Scoring subject. The course covers a wide range of topics which have been introduced in Years 8 to 10 and incorporates ideas and experiences from other subjects. Topics covered include landscapes and land uses in Australia, Settlement Patterns, Urban Australia and mapping and practical skills. A three-day camp, based in the Harvey region, is an essential part of this course.

The Practical Geography course is a Wholly School Assessed subject. The Year 11 Practical Geography course is local area-based while, in Year 12, the course broadens to enable students to develop an understanding of patterns of work, leisure and tourism, land management issues from rural and urban areas, both locally and in a wider Australian context.
