This course is available to Year 8, 9 and 10 students as an option. They develop the skills required to use a sewing machine, overlocker and equipment required for cutting and pattern making. They develop an understanding of influences on fashion and how it affects clothing construction, thus gaining a knowledge of differing techniques used in the construction of articles and garments. Examples of articles or garments made are:
- Stencilled cushion
- Animal quilts
- Co-ordinated outfit for themselves
- Knit garments and colourful T-shirts
- Skirts
- Flannelette PJs
Year 9 and 10 students can opt to study Creative Crafts. They apply a technology process to design and make a range of high quality craft items and gifts, exploring, selecting and using materials which are appropriate to items being produced and developing methods of promoting and marketing their goods. Examples of projects developed are:
- Painted items
- Decoupage
- Candlewicking
- Jewellery items
- Gel candles
- Card making
- Cross stitch
- Christmas items
The Art and Art and Design courses offered to Year 11 and 12 students both contain a textiles component. In addition students taking the Art and Design course can work on jewellery, printmaking and interior design projects.
