Surfing - St Mary's Anglican Girls' School

Surfing

Given St Mary’s proximity to the ocean, surfing is an incredibly popular pastime for many of our students. That is why we offer an extensive co-curricular surfing program that includes before-school surfing lessons and a series of camps held at our St Mary’s at Metricup campus, which is located in the heart of the world-famous Margaret River region. In 2021, close to 250 Senior School students and 50 Junior School students participated in our co-curricular surfing program.

Our before-school surfing lessons, conducted by qualified and experienced instructors at nearby Trigg Beach, cater to surfers of varying abilities. The girls can progress from beginner to advanced skills sessions as their confidence grows.

St Mary’s also has its own surf club, which provides opportunities for students to represent the School in a variety of surfing competitions throughout the year. Members of our surf club have represented St Mary’s at state and national competitions.

St Mary’s surfers win big

St Mary’s students Chloe and Jaya caused the upset of the 2021 WA School Surfing Titles by claiming victory in the Senior Girls event.

The girls drew on their local knowledge of Trigg Beach break and surfed their hearts out to win a thrilling final against a highly touted pair from Margaret River Senior High School.

By virtue of their win, Chloe and Jaya earned the right to represent Western Australia at the 2021 Australian Junior Surfing Titles.

St Mary’s placed third in the overall Champion School standings behind Margaret River Senior High School and Quinns Baptist College.
