In Design and Technologies (Home Economics) students learn about technologies in society through the following technologies contexts:
- Food Specialisations (Food Technology)
- Materials and Technologies Specialisations (Textiles Technology)
Knowledge, understanding and skills in each subject are presented through two related strands:
- Knowledge and understanding
- Processes and production skills
In Year 8, students study one semester of Food Technology and one semester of Textiles Technology.
In Year 9, students can study Food Technology and/ or Textiles Technology for 2 periods per cycle for the whole year. They can also study Personal Development for 1 period per cycle.
In Year 10, students can study a variety of subjects in Food, Textiles and Caring for Children.
Year 11 and Year 12
In Years 11 and 12, students have the opportunity to study three subjects in the Technologies (Home Economics) area. The three subjects are Children, Family and Community, Food Science and Technology, and Materials, Design and Technology. The first two subjects can be studied in Years 11 and 12 as a General and an ATAR subject and Materials Design and Technology can be studied in Years 11 and 12 as a General course.
In Year 11 and 12 students can study a variety of subjects in the Technologies area.
