St Mary’s offers an exciting and comprehensive media program, including photography, studio production, film and television studies, editing, digital media and documentary study.
Media is a subject which is versatile and suits a variety of subject choices and career paths.
Years 8, 9 and 10
Students are introduced to the basic theories of mass communication, modern mass media, film, television, and photography. They learn practical skills needed to master photography and videography, by making their own films and exploring the world of digital photography.
Years 11 and 12
Media Production and Analysis is offered in both General and ATAR pathways. Students view, listen, read, research, analyse and discuss all types of media and consider how people, events and issues are presented. They develop an understanding of media culture today and in the past. Students also create, produce and present their own works in various mediums. Students are encouraged to experiment with technologies, structures, codes and conventions to express their ideas and creativity. They have the opportunity to extend a variety of production skills and processes and create their own personal style in the stories they share.
