Pathways
At St Mary’s, we recognise that every girl’s journey is unique. By Years 11 and 12, each girl has selected one of our two equally valued pathways that best support her future plans.
Students also have the flexibility to combine elements of the ATAR and ELEVATE Pathways to create a program that reflects their individual learning needs and aspirations.
ATAR Pathway
Designed for students striving for direct entry into university and competitive tertiary courses.
This pathway includes:
- The selection of 4, 5 or 6 ATAR subjects.
- Preparation for rigorous university entry requirements.
- Undertaking externally set ATAR examinations to obtain an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank.
This pathway can lead to entry into:
ELEVATE Pathway
Ideal for students who thrive through practical learning and want to gain valuable workplace experience alongside nationally recognised qualifications.
This pathway includes:
- Work placements provide girls with a great introduction to the world of work, with opportunities to experience professions in real-world settings and develop a deeper understanding of specific careers.
- Students learn practical skills and establish networks and industry contacts.
- Students graduate with nationally recognised qualifications.
- Students achieve Endorsed Workplace Learning Units, which contribute towards attaining their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)
Where this pathway can lead:
- The training, skills and qualifications obtained on the ELEVATE pathway ensure students are well placed to find a job or undertake further study at either TAFE or university.
- Students are gaining a head start in their chosen career.
- Elevate provides a perfect introduction to the world of work. Students learn practical skills, establish networks and gain an insight into the needs of workplaces.
- Our Elevate pathway gives students a head start in their chosen career.
Supporting girls to discover their best starts before Years 11 & 12
Helping each girl discover her best is more than a guiding principle; it is a commitment that shapes every stage of her educational journey.
Year 10: Our carefully designed Careers and Subject Selection Program supports students as they begin to shape their future. Through personalised counselling, information sessions with families, career education and exposure to real-world workplaces, students explore their interests, recognise their strengths and make course choices for Years 11 and 12.
Years 11 & 12: Ongoing support with chosen pathways, academic support, mentoring and networking opportunities, university preparation and planning sessions, equipping each girl for success beyond the gates.
