Year 9 EDI Showcase: Empowering future innovators
POSTED November 12 2025 , News, Academic, Senior School
Throughout 2025, our Year 9 students have been immersed in the Engineering, Design & Innovation (EDI) NXplorers Program, an initiative designed to develop critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills to tackle complex real-world challenges.
The program culminated in our EDI Showcase, where 36 student teams presented innovative solutions to reduce water consumption, energy use, and food waste within our school community. Each team designed a creative concept, developed a supporting app and website and pitched their ideas to a panel of judges from Shell Australia.

A huge congratulations to Sadhbh Caul, Zoe Hatch, Veeya Chudasama, Claire Buxton, and Katherine Johnston, whose winning project focused on encouraging increased use of public transport within our School community and ultimately promoting sustainable, community-focused travel habits.

We are incredibly proud of all our students for their creativity, collaboration and commitment to making a positive impact on the world.
Special thanks to Sarah Hopps, Jamie Henderson, Anne Birsa, Warren Shirley, and Richard Cargeeg from Shell Australia for sharing their industry expertise, and to Rebecca Mellor from our Science Department for serving on the judging panel. Their involvement gave students invaluable insight into how their ideas connect to real-world applications and future career pathways.

Innovation and enterprise are at the heart of the NXplorers Program – principles that will shape learning in our new Science, Enterprise, Technology and Innovation (SETI) Centre, opening in late 2027. This purpose-built space will empower our girls to develop the skills and mindset needed for the careers of tomorrow in a rapidly changing world.
