Introducing Our New School Chaplain

POSTED February 2 2026 , News

We are pleased to welcome Fr Gift Makwasha as our new School Chaplain.

Fr Gift joins us from St George’s Anglican Grammar School, where he has served for the past four years as School Chaplain and Head of the Department of Beliefs and Values. He is also a former St Mary’s parent; his daughter, Gamu, graduated in 2019, making his return to the school community particularly meaningful.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Fr Gift brings more than 30 years of ministry experience in the Anglican Church. His vocation began in the Anglican Diocese of Harare and has since taken him across parish and school communities in Zimbabwe, the United States and Australia. His time as Chaplain at Arundel School, a prestigious girls’ school in Zimbabwe, was especially influential in shaping his commitment to supporting young people in both their personal and spiritual development.

Throughout his ministry, Fr Gift has worked closely with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, offering pastoral care, guidance, and support across different ages, cultures, and life experiences. He continues to contribute to the wider Anglican community as an Honorary Clergy Member of St George’s Anglican Cathedral and as a participant in the WA Anglican Schools Australia Chaplains’ network. He has recently completed a Master of Counselling, further strengthening his capacity to support students and staff.

In reflecting on his appointment, Fr Gift shared words from the hymn Brother, Sister, Let Me Serve You, which capture his approach to chaplaincy:

“Brother, sister, let me serve you; let me be as Christ to you. Pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant too.”

We are elated to welcome Fr Gift back to our community, and we are confident that his warmth, experience and pastoral insight will enrich the spiritual life of our students and staff.
