Shaving for change: over $300,000 raised in fight against blood cancer
POSTED May 12 2025 , News, Parents & Community, Senior School
Right now, over 130,000 Australians are living with the devastating impact of blood cancer, with 53 new diagnoses daily.
Every day, 16 people lose their lives to this disease, and blood cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian children.
It is a cause close to the hearts of many in our school community, and the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave is a fantastic annual event that sees us raise vital funds and awareness for those facing blood cancer.
We are immensely proud to say that we have raised over $348,000 in the last six years. This remarkable fundraising effort would not have been possible without the combined dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and parents, showcasing the exceptional giving spirit of our community.
2025 was a record year for student participation and money raised, with donations totalling more than $95,000—the most of any independent girls’ school in Perth.
Seventy-nine students and one staff member participated. Congratulations to Ciara, Lucy, Hannah, Lily, Millie and Mirikai, who were the seven courageous Year 12 girls who chose to shave their heads. It was truly remarkable to see you inspire the hundreds of students who gathered on the Boarding House lawn to cheer on your efforts.

Special recognition goes to Year 12 student Millie, who raised the most amount of any student, totalling over $7,000 in memory of her dad, who passed away from cancer five years ago.
You can watch the video of how the day unfolded here.
These donations have made a real and tangible difference, helping to fund life-changing research and support services for patients and their families.
It is always heartening to witness our students’ commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by blood cancer, and we look forward to doing it all again in 2026.
