Congratulations to Alex Lawson, one of our Learning Support teachers, whose research article has been published in the international peer-reviewed open-access journal Education Sciences.

Building Bridges for Twice-Exceptional Students: A Case Study in a Secondary School explores how collaborative approaches between teacher, student and parent, combined with teacher-led enquiry into strengths-based strategies, can create bespoke educational plans for twice-exceptional (2e) students.
2e learners are those who demonstrate high ability or giftedness in one or more areas while also experiencing learning challenges or disabilities.
Collaborating with Curtin University’s Dr Jia White and Professor John Williams, Alex’s research paper highlights both the potential and the challenges of implementing these approaches within traditional school structures and offers practical strategies and fresh insights for educators seeking to enhance learning outcomes for 2e students through collaboration and innovation.
It has also inspired the introduction of a 2e strengths-based elective offered by our Learning Support Department in 2026.
