Winning i3 team makes a big ‘Splash’

POSTED December 1 2023 , Academic, News, Senior School

Yesterday, 180 Year 10 students representing 39 teams participated in the finale to St Mary’s 2023 i3 Program – the Live Pitch Showcase – where they pitched their digital solution to help solve a UN Sustainable Development Goal to a panel of judges.

Congratulations to the overall winning team, ‘Splash’, who designed an app that leads children on an interactive and competitive learning journey to teach them about the ocean and how they can protect it.

‘Splash’ received the i3 Live Pitch Showcase Perpetual Trophy, kindly sponsored by Bankwest. They will also attend a tour of Bankwest’s Corporate Headquarters with guest speaker, Kate Kirwan from SheCodes, on Monday 4 December.

Second place was awarded to ‘No Qs For U’, third place went to ‘Hand2Help, fourth place was attained by ‘$amepay’ and ‘EcoEyes’ placed fifth. The People’s Choice Award for the best stand was won by ‘Food Miles’.

Thank you to the judges, mentors and organisations who contributed to the day: Anglicare, Apps People, Avanade, Bankwest, BHP, Bloom, Commonwealth Bank, CompNow, Curtin University, Deloitte, Edith Cowan University, Ever Nimble, Fortescue, Microsoft, Money School, Murdoch University, O2 Marine, Office of Kate Chaney MP, Rio Tinto, RPM Global, Schlumberger, Sentient Computing, The Volte, United Nations Association of Australia WA Division, University of Notre Dame, University of Western Australia, Until It’s Not, Wood plc and Woodside.

We also extend our gratitude to Bankwest, Scitech, CompNow, The University of Notre Dame and Woodside for generously donating prizes for the winning teams.

Guest speakers included Crew Lead at Bankwest Philippa Costanzo, Olivia Grayson, St Mary’s 2024 Technology Captain, Olivia, and some of our Year 10 students – Jackie, Samantha, Daniella and Mili – who shared stories about their recent work experience placements.

All the teams put in an incredible effort throughout the year; we are in awe of the courage, respect, persistence, creative thinking and team spirit they demonstrated during their i3 journey.

We are so proud of the innovative work that our Year 10 girls have undertaken throughout the i3 Program this year.
