Celebrating our Year 12 Elevate students

POSTED October 14 2026 , News, Senior School

Our Year 12 Elevate students are graduating with more than a WACE certificate; they are leaving school with nationally recognised qualifications, industry experience and the confidence that comes from applying their learning in real-world settings.

At a special assembly, we celebrated students who embraced our Elevate pathway, completing qualifications and industry training across a range of fields, including business, nursing, sport, design and education assistance.

Our program offers students an alternative pathway that combines academic learning with vocational education and practical experience. Through specialised training, workplace learning and industry placements, students can develop valuable skills while exploring future career options.

For many students, the program has provided a chance to discover how they learn best.

Among those sharing their experiences at the assembly was Year 12 student Ruby-Rose. Over the past two years, she has completed a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, a Certificate IV in Preparation for Health and Nursing Studies, and earned Emergency Medical Responder certification, learning emergency response and advanced life support skills before her career has even begun.

Her journey has included placements in aged care, early childhood and obstetric environments, as well as volunteering with Perth Medical Volunteers. Through these experiences, she has developed emergency response and patient care skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the healthcare profession.

One particularly memorable experience saw Ruby-Rose draw on her training to help during a medical emergency in the community, reinforcing both the value of practical learning and her passion for pursuing a career in healthcare.

Reflecting on her journey, she spoke about the confidence, industry knowledge and sense of purpose she has gained through the Elevate pathway.

“Most importantly, it’s taught me that there’s no single pathway to success,” she said. “We all learn differently. Some people thrive in ATAR, some in vocational education. For me, the Elevate pathway was the perfect fit.”

Her experience reflects the broader philosophy of the program, which recognises that students have different strengths, interests and ways of learning. By providing opportunities to learn beyond the traditional classroom, Elevate helps students develop transferable skills, build professional networks and gain a clearer understanding of their future pathways. A real example of how St Mary’s helps girls discover their best.
