Music is one of the ways we strive to kindle the spark of creativity in your daughter to allow her talent to glow and shine.
The St Mary’s Music Department provides an extensive range of study and performance opportunities for girls who simply enjoy music, and those who want to study music as a WACE subject in Years 11 and 12.
Our classroom music courses typically cover music literature and the history of music, techniques of composition, including melody writing, arranging for ensembles and harmony, music theory, music perception and music performance.
Students may learn an orchestral or band instrument, or take vocal studies from one of the School’s 30 specialist peripatetic music teachers.
Our ensemble program provides performance opportunities for instrumentalists or choristers, while there are numerous band, choral and orchestral ensembles in the Junior and Senior School.
The music facilities at St Mary's are amongst the finest in Australia. The Lady Treatt Centre for Music and Dance has five music classrooms. There are 17 music studios to cater for individual instrumental and vocal lessons, while the spacious percussion room houses the school's comprehensive collection of percussion instruments. The music library houses a large collection of orchestra, band and choral music.
Additionally, music concerts and performances take place in our purpose-built Lady Wardle Performing Arts Centre, which features first class staging, lighting and sound equipment.
