St Mary’s alumni awarded prestigious Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship

We are delighted to congratulate Aimee Ryan (’20), who has been awarded the prestigious Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship.

This remarkable achievement is especially significant, as Aimee joins classmate Georgia McKerracher (’20), who was awarded a Ramsay Scholarship in 2024. The award recognises exceptional young Australians who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and a commitment to making a meaningful contribution in their chosen fields.

Aimee is a musician, performer and scholar who holds a Bachelor of Philosophy in Music with First Class Honours from the University of Western Australia (UWA), where she was also a Winthrop Scholar. Her studies have taken her to the University of Bristol, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and in Italy. Aimee is passionate about expanding access to music education and has also founded an outreach program for rural Western Australian primary schools

A decorated performer, Aimee was the 2024 recipient of the Vose Memorial Prize for Music, UWA’s highest performance award. She has performed with the West Australian Opera, Freeze Frame Opera, the Western Australian Youth Orchestra and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

With her Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship, Aimee will study a Master of Music in Performance (Vocal) at the Royal College of Music, London, advancing her technical abilities and musicological research to the highest international standard. Post-study, Aimee hopes to pursue a performance career in Australia and abroad, leading the preservation and development of the Western artistic tradition of Opera.  

St Mary’s is proud to celebrate Aimee, whose achievements reflect the curiosity, courage and commitment to excellence that continue to inspire our school community. We warmly congratulate her on this outstanding recognition and look forward to following the next chapters of her journey.

Aimee will be hosting a fundraising recital where she will perform an evening of opera and art song in support of her upcoming studies. She will be joined by guest artists Sara Macliver, Lisa Harper-Brown, Cecilia Sun and Marilyn Phillips. This special recital celebrates Aimee’s musical journey to date and looks towards the exciting opportunities ahead. All proceeds will help support the costs of her postgraduate studies in London.
